The Seed That Started It All…

Hi I’m Amber Sewell-Green, plant-based dietitian and nutritionist based in Brisbane, Australia. I’ve dedicated my whole career to supporting people to thrive and reverse disease using personalised whole food plant-based nutrition for the body and mind.

I’ve been passionate about food since I was old enough to play and pick veggies from a garden! I spent my weekends as a teenager in awe of the wonders of natural medicine as I worked in the local health food store. In fact, my great great grandfather actually opened one of the first health food stores in Australia! One might say Green’ is in my genes!

Many moons later, I’m a qualified accredited practicing dietitian (APD) and nutritionist who has had the honour of helping thousands of people reach their wellbeing goals through my work in private practice, medical and research centres and in group education. I have had the fortune to receive health and medical training in both Australia and Internationally, in developed and developing nations. So, I understand that we all have exposure to different environments, faced different barriers and had access to different levels of support.

Ultimately, it’s not a one size fits all approach.

Through my studies and training I have learnt the science behind food, anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, sociology, psychology, but most importantly, I’ve learnt how to critically evaluate and understand scientific literature.

Let me seperate fact from fiction for you! I’ve supported parents to raise children on nutritionally complete plant-based diets, helped couples optimise fertility and enabled clients to calm inflammation and reverse metabolic conditions.

Watching people go their cocktail off medications and find new lust for life is just incredible. Proving food can be your medicine.

Having received 1st Class Honours for my Thesis on Food Addiction in Family Dyads, I have always known that diet and nutrition alone was never the end of my career or quest for knowledge to heal others. It was just the tool for my medicine. I also realised just how big a role our mind and brain plays in our health. Out brain is the organ that can self-sabotage or achieve our goals with the slightest change in chemical and electrical signalling. If that wasn’t enough, our brain is intrinsically linked to our gut microflora through something called the enteric nervous system as well as hormones and nerves such as the vagus nerve that runs from our stomach to our head. We can this the gut-brain axis. So what we eat impacts our mindset, and our mindset impacts what we eat.

This just seems to epic to ignore. So to evolve into the next stage of my journey, optimising the mind, I have recently completed additional Diplomas in Neuroscience and Psychology and at The University of Queensland, and am currently undertaking a PhD in diet to help treat (or at least optimise outcomes) for people living with Motor Neuron Disease.
